Memorablia

Memories are a beautiful thing if you don't have to deal with the past.

As dumb as a one liner can probably be. Got this from a Richard Linklater movie. But if one ponders a little, then you realize the line's got a certain whackiness to it. As well as a bit of substance. Go on. It doesn't hurt if you think. Whatsay huh?

Hey...I realized after I posted this junk that today's April 1. My Day! So I came back to write some more. Isn't this supposed to be funny and all? But believe me, I haven't got a funny bone in my entire body. I can try to be sarcastic if you want me to. But serious laughs, well....... I can do the laughing part, you know. When I sit down to write something, pen and paper et al, all I can remember is when I peed the last time. Big Problem with thinking. So leave alone the funny part, I have serious-unknown-syndrome in just converting thoughts into ink (or binary in this case). But I never cease trying, much to the dismay of people who are forced to read my 'work'.

Only yesterday, I remember using copious amounts of mental and physical coercion to get Chingari Baadshah to read (and comment) on my blog. But Baadshah is an expert in wriggling out of tight situations. With a swish of his water jug and a shrill "abbeeeeyyyy kya kar rahe hoo??", he managed to wiggle out of my persuasive hold. 'Damn', I muttered under my breath and set out in search of some other unsuspecting bakra. But fortune has been known to side with the jerks. So I thought better and decided to feed some movie to my starved senses (courtesy 3 days of prolonged labor pains aka exams). I went for a Woody Allen flick - Annie Hall. I expected the movie to be some another melodramatic flick that I usually end up liking. But surprisingly, the romance was fresh and the humour subtle. But even then it managed to evoke loud giggles (and certain glares from my roomie). Go for it if you are looking for something new and closer to life. You might surprise yourself.

Okay. So the post started off with some sappy one-liner, moved onto some humorous (or not so humorous domains), and finally ended up discussing cinema. That is sign enough that I should get my daily dose of meditation. And no, that is not the reason why I am so smart, intelligent, creative etc etc. Till Next Time!

PS - Try making a bakra out of someone today. If you want to be original, make him read my post and tell him it's supposed to be funny.

She's On Fire

Another day in the calendar.

0915 The bugging alarm in my cell begins emitting ominous tones. I know it is time to get up. Usually I would have just pressed the "end" button. But today's different. I have got an attendance class and probabilistic determinations point towards the 'undesired' category.

0925 Brushed my teeth. Tried straightening the mop of hair I have been gifted with. But then realized no one cared anyway. So I let it be. Usually time constraints in such tight situations do not permit me to put on my shoes. So I got hold of my slippers (no not 'sandals', the bathroom slippers) and make the dash towards the Lecture Theater.

0930 - 1030 The hour passes by in a blur with me trying in the initial phases to catch a word every now and then, but finally giving up after just 15 minutes. Rest of the time passes in napping blissfully or smiling smugly. Somewhere in between a song finds its way into my head. Now, this is bad. Really BAD. I have got to listen to it but the Prof won't stop. This is not good. OK. I manage to keep irritation at bay by humming the tunes but I need to listen to it. Desperately.

1030 - 1100 Breakfast Time. No matter how desperately I want to hear that song, I need to fill myself. So I reach the cafe and place the order.

One Orange Juice + One Top Ramen Curry + Two Boiled Eggs

I try to put in an extra rupee to bribe the cafe-guy and get him to do my thingy first. But he's not budging. Silly Guy.

As soon as the order is ready, I wolf it down.

1100 - 1105 These five minutes are crucial. For I find myself in the quintessential predicament. There's a class after the break. What should I do? A weak voice asks me to attend the class. "You should try to be a good student", it says. But then the devil rules and I find myself tracing back the steps to my haven.

1110 - 1115 Ahh! Finally. Earphones are unearthed and clamped as far into the ears as they would go. Then. She's On Fire. Pure Bliss.

Life doesn't suck. No it doesn't people. Enjoy the moments. Science, Technology, and Society will come again. If not this week then the next. Probability says so. Trust Me
!

That Thing You Do

Idiosyncrasies which make me myself.
  • I hate it when the small rectangular orange light begins to glow as soon as I switch on my computer. So I make it a point to turn it off asap.
  • I like to be meticulous while spreading the table cover over my desk. The border needs to be the same all the way round the desk. It's a different matter altogether if there's no cover to start with (as has become the habit now).
  • I hate it when I wake up (already too late), only to find my favorite shower occupied by some other bugger.
  • I absolutely love studying (syllabus related crap) or reading (books, wikipedia, yada yada) in the mellow (yellow?) light of my table lamp.
  • I don't like messy desks and thus have made it a habit to organize mine every few days or so.
  • I adore waking up soooo late into the night and finding absolutely no one to talk to or bore or bug.
  • I always end up feeling a bit uneasy when someone criticizes my favourite song or book.
  • I try to be as humble as possible but always experience that strange rush that accompanies genuine praise.
  • I tend to distance myself from controversies but secretly hope to someday take over the world.
  • I have this strange urge to continuously assess myself and analyze my shortcomings (only to fall short of my own expectations yet again).
  • I never had a good sense of humour and maybe that is why I always feel a tad uncomfortable when some poor guy is made the butt of all our jokes.
  • Have kind of begin to like the adage - "You are with yourself all the time. Better enjoy the company."
  • I love the phrase "What If?". It is so potent and the starting point of so many journal entries.
  • I try being a realist and romantic at the same time. It's fun to watch the two aspects of me struggle for supremacy.
  • And yes, I love eating ice cubes.

Chiku Wanted - Online or Offline

Reuters report:

A certain Chiku has been wreaking havoc in regions of the blogosphere which had, so far, remained immune from any kind of anti-social activities. His dark deeds have cast a somber shadow on the lives of certain lankys, sids, and meds. These netizens seem to be worst hit by what is gradually becoming popular as the Chiku Syndrome. This notorious net-riminal who goes by the seemingly innocent pseudonym of Chiku, targets unsuspecting bloggers and demoralizes them by posting atrocious remarks about their writing skills on the blogs they read. His 'modus operandi' includes colluding with prospective mischief makers (read buggers, bores, girls etc). Together, they seek to form a cartel to bring down the peace loving netizens.

But that's not all. Chiku has been known to spread rumours about his identity. He tends to cast the suspicion on other netizens by plagiarizing their posts and using phrases commonly uttered by them (read tatti, hagga, potty etc). This tactic has naturally led to a lot of confusion. Insider reports confirm that the Thalua Bureau of Investigation (TBI) apprehended certain citizens (different from netizens) who turned out to be quite unaware of any such conspiracy. Fortunately, they were soon released from custody.

As can be expected, a massive net-hunt has been launched to capture this eluding Chiku. "Any information as to his IP address or email id will be rewarded genereously", said Chingari Baadshah - the president of Thalua's Republic of DA-IICT. The TBI has been able to narrow down the whereabouts of this dreaded mastermind to a nondescript IP in DA-IICT, the underground haven for all gamers, crackers, and viruses. Needless to say, it won't be long before the hard working thaluas of TBI bring down this 'terrorist'. We hope to hear the good news very soon.

NOTE: TBI informed us that Chiku will be tried in full compliance with the 1976 Treaty of Vella-Thaluas. People might remember that this treaty came into effect in order to protect the vella rights of the thalua community. But net-riminals like Chiku seek to undermine its credibility. It's hoped that justice will be meted out without any partiality.

PS: Please contact a certain Marvin if you are unaware about the implications of the term "Thalua".

They Said It

Legends die hard. And same holds for what they say. Funny, witty, sappy, emotional lines from movies I adore.

Why do I fall in love with any woman I see, who shows me the least bit of attention?>
— JOEL BARISH, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

You don't know about real loss; because that only occurs when you love something more than you love yourself.
— SEAN MAGUIRE, Good Will Hunting

We don't read or write poetry because it is cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race, and the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, Law, Business, Engineering-these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love-these are what we stay alive for.
— JOHN KEATING, Dead Poets Society

If we all go for the blonde and block each other, not a single one of us is going to get her. So then we go for her friends, but they will all give us the cold shoulder because no on likes to be second choice. But what if none of us goes for the blonde? We won't get in each other's way and we won't insult the other girls. It's the only way to win. It's the only way we all get laid.
— JOHN NASH, A Beautiful Mind

There's nothing better than a great romance to ruin a perfectly good friendship.
— OLIVER MARTIN, A Lot Like Love

I've made the most important discovery of my life. It's only in the mysterious equation of love that any logical reasons can be found. I'm only here tonight because of you. You are the only reason I am.....you are all my reasons.
— JOHN NASH, A Beautiful Mind

I guess when you're young, you just believe there'll be many people with whom you'll connect with. Later in life, you realize it only happens a few times.
— CELINE, Before Sunset

There's these breeds of monkeys, right, and all they do is have sex, all the time, you know? And they turn out to be the least violent, the most peaceful, the most happy, you know? So maybe fooling around isn't so bad.
— Jesse, Before Sunrise

Honestly, if you're not willing to sound stupid you don't deserve to be in love.
— EMILY FRIEHL, A Lot Like Love

You know, this necklace makes me think of this totally random memory of my mother. I was a little kid, and I was crying for one reason or another. And she was cradling me, rocking me back and forth, and I can just remember the silver balls rolling around. And there was like snot running down my nose. And she offered me her sleeve and told me to blow my nose into it. And I can remember, even as a little kid, thinking to myself, this is love... this is love.
— ANDREW LARGEMAN, Garden State

Yeah. The funny thing is - on the outside, I was an honest man, straight as an arrow. I had to come to prison to be a crook.
— ANDY DUFRESNE, The Shawshank Redemption

We're not laughing at you - we're laughing near you.
— JOHN KEATING, Dead Poets Society

I'd ask you about love, you'd probably quote me a sonnet. But you've never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable. Known someone that could level you with her eyes, feeling like God put an angel on earth just for you. Who could rescue you from the depths of hell.
— SEAN MAGUIRE, Good Will Hunting

Now we all have a great need for acceptance, but you must trust that your beliefs are unique, your own, even though others may think them odd or unpopular, even though the herd may go, that's baaaaad. Robert Frost said, "Two roads diverged in the wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."
— JOHN KEATING, Dead Poets Society
